Scouting Sunrise - 01-08-2007On 1st August 1907 Scouting’s Founder Robert Baden-Powell blew his Kudo Horn on Brownsea Island at 8am to open the world’s 1st Scout Camp. The Methodist Group along with Scouts all around the world gathered at the same time, 8am, 100 years later to mark the centenary, renew our promise and look to the future. We met at Cobtree Manor Park Aylesford and walked to the top of the hill above the elephant house looking out across Aylesford. We were joined by Dick Hill who has over 60 years of Scouting experience and John and Jane Gurnett former Methodist group leaders. After the welcome by Aleta Holroyd, Dick led us in prayers and then we listened to a song written especially for the centenary and performed by scouts including Richard Flood our own Cub leader. During this moving song we all renewed our promise, first the Beavers, then Cubs and finally Scouts and all Adult members. We sang Kum bye ya accompanied by Keith Burton on guitar, before being blessed by Dick. I felt the service was very moving and spiritual. After a photo call we walked back down the hill and had breakfast of bacon rolls from the kiosk. Finally we played team rounders children v adults.Scouting Sunrise news article more news articles... | Latest newsGroup Camp 2008 |
